France will probably experience a second wave of COVID-19 cases after the summer, the scientific committee monitoring the virus said in a statement on Tuesday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

"France has the situation under control but it is precarious, with a surge of virus circulation this summer. The short term future of the pandemic mainly lies in the hands of the population," the committee said, noting that "it is highly likely that we will experience a second epidemic wave this autumn or winter."

Since the beginning of the outbreak, the European country confirmed 191,295 cases of coronavirus, with 79,501 patients still being treated. Out of the remainder, 81,500 people successfully recovered, while 30,294 died from the virus.
