A three-week shoot in Italy for the new Tom Cruise movie, “Mission Impossible”, Has been postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus, said the Paramount Pictures film studio on Monday, APA reports citing en24.

Filming was scheduled to begin on Monday in Venice, where the last two days of the annual Carnival festival of the lagoon city were canceled on Sunday. The new cases of coronavirus rose to more than 220 on Monday, as Italy closed much of its rich north to stop the spread of the virus.

“Because of the abundance of precautions for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and the efforts of the local Venetian government to stop public meetings in response to the threat of the coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three-week shoot in Venice, the first scheduled stage of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7, ”said Paramount Pictures, a unit of ViacomCBS, in a statement.

Tom Cruise is currently in quarantine at the luxurious Hotel Gritti Palace. It has not been reported that any staff or crew member has been infected. The British cast and crew are scheduled to return to the United Kingdom, where they will be examined upon arrival.

His representative stated that Cruise had not even arrived in the country before production stopped.

The study said it was allowing the rest of the film crew to return home during the delay and that “it would continue to monitor this situation” in Italy.

The study did not say when it expects production to begin.

The announcement comes after the number of cases in Italy of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, rose to more than 150 on Monday with five dead, which led the government to close the most affected areas in the northern regions of Lombardy and Veneto. Italy is the most affected country in Europe.

The authorities of the two regions, where the outbreak is concentrated, have canceled sporting events and closed schools and universities, while companies, from the owner of Ray-Ban, Luxottica, to the most important bank in the country, UniCredit, have told workers who live in the affected areas that remain in their homes.

Lombardy and Veneto represent the industrial heart of Italy and together they represent 30% of gross domestic production.

With an emergency decree approved at a meeting at the headquarters of the Italian civil protection agency, the government adopted special powers to detain people who leave or enter the affected areas.
