Britain's finance ministry expected to announce the successor to Mark Carney as governor of the Bank of England (BoE), APA reports citing Financial Times.

Andrew Bailey, a former BoE's Executive Director currently heading the Financial Conduct Authority watchdog, is tipped to be appointed.

If confirmed by finance minister Sajid Javid, Bailey would be the 121st governor of the Bank of England and take over from Carney, on February 1.

The Financial Times also reported that Minouche Shafik, an economist who previously worked for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the BoE, was also strongly considered.

The incoming head will inherit the central bank just as the country is scheduled to leave the European Union and will thus have to manage any impact this may have on the economy.
