Ten more patients diagnosed with the coronavirus have died, NHS England has announced - almost doubling the total number of fatalities in the UK, APA reports citing the Telegraph.

In total, 1,140 cases have now been confirmed, an increase of 342 since 2pm yesterday.

The surge comes after a U-turn from Boris Johnson. The Government is now set to ban mass gatherings in a bid to halt the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile Jet2 has cancelled all flights to mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands with immediate effect, the airline announced today.

It comes after Spain declared a state of emergency yesterday. According to local media reports, the Government are going to announce a nationalwide lockdown later this afternoon.
