The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has thanked public servants on the Covid-19 "frontline", APA reports citing BBC News.

He wrote on Twitter in this regard.

He said workers - including doctors, nurses, cleaners, bus and train drivers, and teachers - had performed "remarkable acts of service to humankind".

"I want to share my deep gratitude with public servants on the COVID-19 frontlines. Many of them are working in dangerous conditions. Others have sadly lost their lives.

As we honour these essential workers, we must also commit to better protect & invest in their well-being", the tweet reads.

Note that today is the United Nations' "Public Service Day", which is celebrated on 23 June every year.
