European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Thursday that the European Union's main priority in the next weeks will be reaching a "swift and ambitious agreement on the European recovery package," APA reports citing Teletrader.

"Close coordination between the institutions and full involvement of the European Parliament are of paramount importance. Coming to an agreement swiftly is crucial," Von der Leyen stressed as she announced a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and President of the European Parliament David Sassoli set to take place on July 8.

The €750 billion coronavirus rescue package was already discussed on June 19, when Von der Leyen described the talks as "positive," while also underlining the bloc's need to come to an agreement as fast as possible.
