"We carried out two flights and discharged more than 120 tons of water to the affected areas, thus localizing the fires," Javid Gahramanli, flight engineer-instructor of the BE-200CS amphibious aircraft belonging to the Ministry of Emergency Situations from Azerbaijan, sent by Azerbaijan to extinguish forest fires in Marmaris, APA's Istanbul correspondent reports.
"We would not want such an emergency in brotherly Turkiye, but on the other hand, it is a great honor for us to take part in extinguishing these fires. As of today, we have fully fulfilled all the tasks set before us. "We will take part in the firefighting process again in accordance with the coordinates given by the center," he said.
Mr. Gahramanli also noted that the amphibious aircraft played an important role in extinguishing forest fires in Turkiye this year.
"As you know, amphibious aircraft require special training compared to others because they are operated in extreme conditions. Our crew is also highly professional. There are young pilots among us, who also gain important experience and have never performed any tasks. We have not had a problem. "
Recalling that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with the flight crew from Azerbaijan, our interlocutor stressed that it was a great honor for the crew.
