Russian citizens will be limited in their ability to obtain a temporary residence permit or visas to study in Estonia. This was stated by the Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Reinsalu, APA reports citing Perild.

The official stressed that the unjustified war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine negatively affects the security of Estonia and the European Union.

“It is necessary to continue to put continuous pressure on Russia through sanctions. If sanctions help put an end to Russian aggression, then this will positively affect our security,” he explained.

Now citizens of Russia and Belarus who have obtained the legal right to stay in another EU country have more opportunities to register short-term work in Estonia. This means that they will not be able to apply for a long-term visa for the purpose of work.

“This amendment will put an end to the situation when, in order to circumvent existing sanctions, they apply for a short-stay Schengen visa in another EU country, for example, for the purpose of tourism,” Reinsalu concluded.

Recall that the Estonian authorities banned Russian and Belarusian tennis players from playing at professional tennis tournaments on the territory of their country.
Earlier it was reported that the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs imposed a five-year ban on entry into the country for the Russian group Hands Up, for supporting the Russian-Ukrainian war.
