European Union Foreign Affairs and Security Policy High Representative Josep Borrell cautioned on Friday that the deployment of Russian nuclear warheads to Belarus might result in "further extremely dangerous escalation," stressing that any attempt to fuel up the tensions will be met by a "strong reaction," APA reports citing Teletrader.

"The decision goes against commitments which Russia has undertaken in the Budapest Memorandum, whereby Belarus eliminated all nuclear weapons from its territory," Borrell said. He accused the Minsk regime of being an "accomplice" to Moscow's "war of aggression" against Kiev and called on Belarus to "immediately" end its support to Russia.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko previously disclosed that Russia began transferring some of its nuclear weapons to his country. The White House, however, said there are no indications that Russia will use nuclear arms.
