EU says Georgia could face sanctions over flights with Russia

Peter Stano, the chief spokesperson for the European Commission's External Action Service, told Netgazet in an interview that the European Union could consider sanctioning Georgia if the country continues to allow its flights with Russia to go on, APA reports citing Teletrader.

"The EU sanctions regime provides for imposing sanctions on those who participate in or support the possible circumvention of the EU sanctions against Russia," Stano warned, noting that as a result of the sanctions, Russia was unable to maintain its fleet of aircraft in accordance with global technical and safety requirements. "Georgia should not allow dangerous Russian aircraft into its territory," he concluded.
