European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told the press the EU is assisting Ukraine in its rebuilding efforts in order to help the war-struck nation become a "conducive environment for the business sector," APA reports citing Tele Trader.

Speaking to the press after her meeting with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Von der Leyen promised the bloc will help Ukraine "rise from the ashes," underscoring the need for reform and investment in order for the country to continue down its "European path." "Ukraine, a solid parliamentary democracy, was already on a good track before Russia invaded," she claimed.

Von der Leyen previously said the EU wants Ukraine to become a member nation, however, the country is, as of now, not an official candidate for accession.
