The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) published on Wednesday an update on the health safety protocol for air travel, APA reports citing Tele Trader.

This update relaxes the rules on wearing face masks during flights. EASA and ECDC added that this decision comes after the latest developments in the pandemic such as high levels of vaccination and the lifting of restrictions in numerous European countries, although in their opinion "a face mask is still one of the best protection against the transmission of COVID-19." The new recommendation will be in force starting from May 16, but it will be up to individual airlines whether this measure will be implemented. Passengers on flights to or from countries where mask-wearing is mandatory should still keep them on, together with the passengers at high coronavirus risk.
