A fire underneath a major London rail junction is causing travel chaos this morning, APA's British bureau reports.

The blaze broke out underlines near London Bridge station and has caused trains traveling in and out of the busy hub to grind to a halt.

Footage posted on social media showed a major emergency services response in the Southwark area and a thick column of smoke rising over the capital.

The fire broke out on Union Street, but it remains unclear which building was impacted.

Services on the Jubilee Line, which runs through Southwark and London Bridge stations, have been part suspended.

Transport for London warned of severe delays and said trains would not serve stations between Green Park and Canary Wharf.

There are reports nearby tube stations have been evacuated.

One man who has having breakfast with his mother said he heard what may have been an explosion before the fire began.

He told Metro.co.uk: ‘We heard a relatively loud bang of some sort, and then saw smoke coming up all over the place along with a noxious, toxic smell.

‘We evacuated -along with everyone else at the restaurant – and saw part of a building on fire.

‘I don’t know where the fire originated, but there was definitely a loud sound and rubble that made it look as though there had been an explosion of some sort.’
