French officials urged the European Union on Sunday to introduce COVID-19 testing for travelers coming from China, amid worries over the further spread of the virus, following the latter's relaxation of pandemic-related measures, APA reports citing Teletrader.

As of Sunday, France started carrying out PCR tests for arrivals from China, while all passengers from the country will have to provide a negative COVID-19 test, which is not older than 48 hours, starting January 5. "France will push for this methodology to be applied across the EU," Health Minister Francois Braun said during a visit to the Paris' Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport.

Braun explained that those who test positive after today's PCR checks will "receive instruction for their isolation." Within the bloc, so far, only Italy and Spain implemented similar anti-coronavirus measures for arrivals from China.
