Peter Szijjarto, the Hungarian Foreign Minister, has confirmed that his government will continue issuing Schengen visas to Russian nationals, despite the ongoing sanctions imposed on the latter and talks for an eight package of restrictions being on the way, APA reports citing SchengenVisaInfo.com.
“It’s a somewhat more complex and slow procedure compared to when there is such a treaty. But even when there’s no agreement, it doesn’t mean we don’t issue visas. Of course, we will continue doing so, in accordance with the procedure,” Szijjarto said in New York, attending the UN General Assembly.
Notably, the EU agreed on July 31 to discontinue the agreement with Russia, which simplified visa issuance to Russian citizens.
