International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said on Friday that a backup power line to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) was damaged by shelling and disconnected late on Thursday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Despite having shut down all of its six reactors, the ZNPP still needs electricity for cooling down the reactors and for other operations, according to IAEA, which added that the plant is now left with only one working external power line out of four it had had before February.

"The extent of damage was not yet clear but work to repair the line is already under way," the agency noted, while Grossi called for an immediate stop to all military action near nuclear plants after "the IAEA experts reported that they heard the sound of loud explosions today that appeared to come from a distance of a few hundred meters from the [ZNPP] facility."
