German airline Lufthansa says 800 flights will be canceled on Friday, due to a one-day strike by a pilots' union, APA reports citing NHK World.

Lufthansa said on Thursday that almost all flights to and from its major hub airports in Frankfurt and Munich will be canceled. The firm indicated that about 130,000 passengers will be affected.

The company said it will contact the passengers and try to book them on other flights.

Some flights connecting Japan's Haneda Airport and the two German cities will also be canceled.

Local media outlets say that the union is demanding a 5.5 percent wage hike for about 5,000 pilots this year. They say the union also wants wages to be increased starting next year to compensate for inflation.

About 1,000 Lufthansa flights were canceled in July, due to a strike by grounds crew members, who were demanding pay increases. Those cancellations affected about 130,000 passengers.
