European Council President Charles Michel confirmed on Wednesday that the European Union is considering including a ban on gold imports from Russia in its new package of sanctions against that country, set to be introduced due to Moscow's ongoing military operation in Ukraine, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Speaking to reporters due to his official visit to North Macedonia, Michel said the bloc is working on the plan with its partners from the Group of Seven (G7). He also stressed the priority should be to have all the countries that have already introduced sanctions on Russia implement the move.

If it introduced such a ban, the EU would follow the United States and Canada, which previously issued a ban on Russian gold.
