Portugal's daily virus cases over 50,000 for first time

The number of infections from COVID-19 registered daily in Portugal surpassed 50,000 for the first time, coming in 56,426 on Thursday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The Iberian country now counts a total of 2,059,595 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic.

In the past 24 hours, 34 people died from the consequences of the disease, taking the figure for fatalities linked to the virus to 19,447.

In the same period, the tally of people that recovered from COVID-19 grew by 28,301 to 1,665,580. The number of those treated in hospitals went up by 45 to 2,004, and of those in intensive care units (ICU) decreased by one to 152.
