"The outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to become the next Secretary General of NATO,” indicating that “the Ukrainian Parliament and the Conservative Party support the idea of Johnson as a possible candidate for the position, although skeptics note that France will most likely oppose it and veto it," APA reports citing the Telegraph.

She stated: “Johnson has the backing of senior Conservatives to become the next Secretary General of NATO when that high-ranking position becomes vacant, as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is widely expected to step down next September. Johnson is the latest British politician to be nominated for the position since Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, Theresa May, and David Cameron, and the timing of the role will allow Johnson to recharge his batteries for a while after he steps down as prime minister in September."

The newspaper added that Johnson would have to step down as MP to take up the new position if NATO member states unanimously appointed him.
