NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will discuss with Recep Tayyip Erdogan the issue of Sweden's membership in the organization, APA's Istanbul correspondent reports.

"My message will be that Sweden's NATO membership is beneficial for the Scandinavian countries, the Baltic region, as well as for the entire NATO and, of course, Turkiye and other allies. I will also stress that since June 1, new anti-terrorism law came into force in Sweeden. These laws actually make a difference. This shows that currently, Sweeden is taking new steps in strengthening fight against terrorism. Therefore, I welcome both the stronger legislation that came into force in Sweden on June 1 and the strengthening of cooperation between Sweden and Turkiye. This will also be proof that Sweden has fulfilled its obligations arising from this Tripartite Memorandum signed in Madrid," he stressed.

He also added that Turkiye's security concerns are legal and natural: "Because no ally has been subjected to terrorist attacks as much as Turkiye. Therefore it is important to jointly work with Turkiye against all kinds of terrorism. That is why I welcome what NATO allies have done, as well as what Sweden has done in the past month to accelerate the fight against terrorism and cooperation with Turkey. I am sure that Sweden's accession protocol will be ratified soon."
