Turkey has responded to allegations that the environmental problems caused by sand and dust storms in Iran and reaching the air pollution peak in Tehran are due to the presence of dams built by the official Ankara, APA's correspondent in Instanbul reports.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgic said that these allegations were raised by Iranian media and politicians.

He noted that the claims that the dams in Turkey caused sand and dust storms are far from science.

"Sand and dust storms are mostly natural phenomena and are accepted by all circles. The main cause of sand and dust storms affecting Turkey and Iran is desert dust from Africa and the Middle East, the two most important dust sources in the world. In fact, the destruction of lands caused by climate change, deforestation, desertification, and drought also increase these storms, "the statement said.
