Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to hold a phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin tomorrow, said the Turkish President in an interview with "CNN Turk" and "Kanal D" TV channels, APA’s Istanbul correspondent reports.

Erdogan noted that this conversation will take place at the Turkiye’s initiative, and he and his Russian counterpart will discuss the latest situation in Ukraine, especially the "referendums" taking place in the Ukrainian regions:

"I am not hopeless about achieving peace. To claim that we would get such a result immediately would be a dream. The referendum event in four cities brings trouble. I wish such a referendum would not be held. But we could solve all this through diplomacy, and so could they. A similar situation occurred in Crimea in 2014. We did not succeed then. We told Mr. Putin, "We have comrades in Crimea; the step you are taking is not correct," but it didn't work. I would like to discuss these matters in detail with Putin tomorrow." Erdogan said.
