Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna revealed on Saturday that the country expects to become a European Union member "within five years,"APA reports citing Teletrader.

In an interview with Ukraine Radio, Stefanishyna emphasized that the country's reforms and changes over the last four years have provided a solid foundation for making a quick political decision on granting Ukraine candidate status, adding that Kyiv must engage in more serious transformations in the country. She predicted that Ukraine will be able to join the EU politically "in record time" just as it acquired the status of candidacy.

Previously, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed the bloc's support for Ukraine on the 'long road' to membership, after granting it candidate status last month.
