Ukraine has not reached an agreement with Russia on creating a humanitarian corridor for civilians to leave the besieged city of Mariupol, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, Iryna Vereshschuk, said, APA reports citing The Guardian.

It comes after Russia announced a ceasefire to allow for civilians sheltering in the besieged Azovstal steel plant to leave.

Vereshschuk said on Telegram:

ƏIt is important to understand that a humanitarian corridor opens by the agreement of both sides.

A corridor announced unilaterally does not provide security, and therefore is not a humanitarian corridor.Ə
