The number of people forced to leave their homes in 2022 reached 100 million people worldwide. This was announced on Wednesday, by Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres, APA reports citing CNTV.

“This is the highest number since the creation of the UN,” Guterres warned of the magnitude of the problem of displaced people. His quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to UN experts, 94 states are experiencing problems due to rising food and energy prices. In total, about 1.6 billion people live in them. In many regions of the Earth, there is a real threat of famine, Guterres stressed.

The UN Secretary General believes that 60% of developing countries are faced with a high risk of a debt crisis. In order to compensate for the shortcomings of the social protection system, developing countries need at least $ 1.2 trillion annually, Guterrysh emphasized.

Earlier, the UN reported that even before the conflict in Ukraine, the world The number of refugees under 18 has risen to a record high. By the end of 2021, there were about 13.7 million refugee children in the world, and about 22.8 million more children were displaced within their countries. At the same time, UN experts did not include in this number children who left their homes due to environmental and climatic disasters, as well as children who became refugees and displaced persons due to the situation in Ukraine.
