The Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Nihad Mammadov won the gold medal at the World Junior Championships held in the capital of Bulgaria - Sofia, Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF) told APA.

According to AWF, on the fifth day of the championship, three of our Greco-Roman wrestlers fought.

Nihad Mammadli (55 kg) in the first meeting defeated an opponent from Ukraine. Then our European champion defeated a wrestler from Turkey.

Having won before the time of the Belarusian athlete, N. Mammadli reached the semifinal. In the semifinals, our athlete defeated the Uzbek wrestler and reached the final. Having a clear victory over the representative of India in the decisive battle, N. Mammadli became the world champion.

Ziya Babashov (48 kg), who entered the fight against the 1/8 final, first prevailed over the Bulgarian wrestler. In the quarterfinals, the Azerbaijani wrestler defeated the representative of South Africa, and in the semifinals - a rival from India. In the final fight Z. Babashov lost the last-minute opponent from Iran and had to be content with the silver medal.

Azerbaijan's other wrestler Hasai Hasanli (65 kg) easily defeated the representative of Greece in the classification stage. In the next meeting, he did not give any chance to an athlete from Estonia. However, in the quarterfinals, H. Hasanli lost to the Iranian opponent with a minimum difference.
