The 26th Taekwondo World Championship will start today in Baku, APA reports.

949 athletes from 145 countries will compete in the World Cup, which will last until June 4.

These taekwondo players will fight for 16 sets of medals in the competition. The World Taekwondo World Cup, which will be organized under the slogan "Ignite Your Power", will coincide with the 50th anniversary of World Taekwondo and the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. About 2,000 guests from more than 150 countries came to our country in the competition. The athlete who will become the world champion will add 140 rating points to his asset.

In the championship, Azerbaijan's Sayyad Dadashov (54 kg), Gashim Magomedov (58 kg), Khanoglan Karimov (63 kg), Javad Aghayev (68 kg), Eltaj Gafarov (74 kg), Aliaskar Aliyev (80 kg), Taleh Suleymanov (87 kg) , Hamidrza Badrialiabadi (+87 kg), Minaya Akbarova (46 kg), Patimat Abakorava (49 kg), Samarrukh Osmanova (53 kg), Fatima Majidova (62 kg) and Farida Azizova (67 kg) will represent.

On the first day of the competition, the winners in 2 weight categories will be announced. Winners of 68 kg for men and 57 kg for women will be determined. Javad Agayev will play in the Azerbaijan national team. He will fight the winner of Solomon Tefera (Ethiopia) - Eldar Kurmanaliyev (Kyrgyzstan) in the 1/32 final stage. The matches to be held in the Baku Crystal Hall will start at 09:00, the semi-final matches will start at 18:30. The official opening ceremony of the World Cup will start at 16:30.

It should be noted that the world championship will be held in Azerbaijan for the second time among the CIS countries after Russia. Our country will go down in history as the seventh European country to host the World Cup after Germany, Denmark, Spain, Greece, Russia and Great Britain.
