Record to be set at World Taekwondo Championship to be held in Baku, said vice president of the Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation, Nagi Safarov, APA reports.

Nagi Safarov stressed that 143 countries have already confirmed their participation in the competition. This is a new record in the history of world championships. It is also possible to increase the number, because Russian athletes can participate in the Championship. However, the final decision regarding their participation has not yet been made. Their participation will be clarified soon after the investigations on the taekwondo players of the neighboring countries are concluded.

Until then, the record was set in 2009. 14 years ago, representatives of 140 countries competed in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The championship in Azerbaijan will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the World Taekwondo Federation. A total of 190 countries will be represented in the competition related to this significant event
