WB allocated $3.6B for more than 50 projects in Azerbaijan so far

“The long-term and constant cooperation between the World Bank and Azerbaijan was founded by Heydar Aliyev. Twenty five years ago, the bank supported choose of liberal market economy led by Heydar Aliyev”, Chairman of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan Elman Rustamov said at the event on 25th anniversary of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Bank.

According to him, president Ilham Aliyev put forward economic reforms, economic development strategy in 2013: “Since that time, the economy has grown more than threefold. Azerbaijan is among the middle income countries. Poverty reduced 10-fold, more than 3 million people escaped poverty, more than 1 million jobs were launched. Azerbaijan received technical, material and comprehensive support from the World Bank during 25 years. The bank has allocated $3.6 billion for more than 50 projects in Azerbaijan. At the present time, the World Bank is implementing 10 active projects worth $1.140 billion”

“I’d like to note the support of the World Bank to strategic projects for Azerbaijan, including the Southern Gas Corridor”, he added.
