Yuri Shedrin: Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia will reach $2 billion this year

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. In the first half of this year, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia grew 55.9% over the same period last year to $1 041.7 million, Russia’s Trade Officer in Azerbaijan, Yuri Shedrin told a press conference.
"Russia is among major trading partners of Azerbaijan. Russia was the second among Azerbaijan’s trade partners with a 13% share last year. Russian exports to Azerbaijan rose 55% and imports 60.4% over this period. With this rate of growth we may predict that trade turnover will reach $2 billion at the year-end,” he underlined.
According to him, 7 509 cars, 2 569 trucks, 30 special purpose vehicles, 68 buses, 36 tractors, 35 cranes and 10 subway cars were delivered to Azerbaijan over the first half.
He stressed that in Azerbaijan there are more than 500 enterprises with Russian capital, including 167 enterprises with 100% Russian capital.
Nail Zaripov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tatarstan in Azerbaijan, said that Tatarstan is ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan in a number of areas.
"Cooperation is viable in shipbuilding, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and other areas,” he added.
He noted that a number of agreements on cooperation were reached during Azeri Prime Minister’s visit to Tatarstan and mutton and beef will be exported to Azerbaijan.
Yuri Shedrin concluded that the meeting of the Azerbaijan-Russia intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will take place in Baku in the third quarter of this year.
