The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) plan to encourage the use of their local currencies in international trade, Ria Novosti informed Thursday, citing a joint statement by the foreign ministers of those countries, APA reports.

"The ministers stressed the importance of promoting the use of local currencies in international trade and financial transactions between countries BRICS as well as their trading partners," the text said.

On a similar note, Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva previously reaffirmed his support for a currency that would be used by the group.
