UEFA is prepared to make the European Super Cup more competitive as the European Football governing body aim to give it a new face, APA reports citing the Guardian.

Real Madrid won the last edition of the tournament with a 2-0 win over Europa Cup winner Eintracht Frankfurt in August this year.

According to a report in the Guardian, it is understood that UEFA is working on the possibility of changing the face of the competition to a new format that would include four teams.

The winner of the Champions League, the winner of the Europa League, and the winner of the Conference League would be joined by the Major League Soccer Champions would compete annually for the Super Cup title.

UEFA consider the tournament as a chance to provide an additional initiative to the team that wins the Conference League instead of the team being overlooked just like in the last two seasons.

The winner of the Conference League would be allowed to lock horns against a potential Champions League winning side could be considered a bonus for the team and also the involvement of the MLS team was also discussed, and UEFA is looking into the possibility of exploring the American market as well. With an MLS team in contention against the best in the world, this could be UEFA’s gateway into the money they have been looking for.

This development is similar to what the likes of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and his cohorts that wanted the Super League were clamoring for the last two seasons that almost tore European football apart with UEFA not buying the idea of the Super League, that would create more competition across the borders of Europe and America.
The agitation has led to the creation of the Conference League, and now the European tournament will witness clubs from the MLS.
