Alaves have acted quickly to replace Asier Garitano with Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz, who has been appointed as head coach until the end of the season, APA-Sport reports.

There will be a baptism of fire for the new boss, as Alaves will travel to LaLiga Santander leaders Real Madrid on Friday night.

After, the Basques will welcome Getafe to the Estadio de Mendizorrotza before facing Real Betis in Seville and then ending the season at home to Barcelona.

Muniz's job will be to address a slide that has seen Alaves lose six of their seven matches since returning from the coronavirus-enforced break, with Los Babazorros currently six points above 18th-placed Real Mallorca.

The Asturian coach was last in charge of Malaga in the 2018/19 campaign, while his last job in LaLiga Santander came with Levante, whom he was with between 2016 and 2018.
