Validity period of 5 replacements rule in football extended

After the hiatus taken place due to coronavirus pandemic, the validity period of the rule to grant clubs the right to make 5 replacements in each match will be extended, Apasport.az website reports.

The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) will allow for applying this novelty in all matches of the next season.

Previously, the decision was made to apply this rule only during 2020. The teams had the right to make 5 replacements in the post-resumption part of 2019/20 season and in the first half of 2020/21 season.

After issuance of FIFA’s permission, each league will be free to make its own decision. The federation is to disclose its decision regarding the permission in the nearest future.

Some time ago, it was claimed that this rule will also be applied to EURO-2020 that will be held in summer of 2021.

Note that the 5 replacements should be implemented in three stages.
