“Litoral states need some time to complete the ratification process,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said in an interview with Russian Today, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

In a response to the question about "From the side, it seems that after the Presidents of the five Caspian littoral countries signed the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea in 2018, there is a stagnation in the negotiation process. Is it true?" Mr. Rudenko said that it is absolutely wrong. "First, litoral states need some time to complete the ratification process. To date, relevant domestic procedures have been carried out in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan. We hope that the Iranian side will also deal closely with this issue after the formation of a new composition of the Mejlis following the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

"Secondly, the Convention is a kind of basis that creates favorable conditions for expanding the five-way cooperation in various fields. So, last year, interaction in the field of economics was significantly developed: in Turkmenistan, the first Caspian Economic Forum was held at the level of the heads of government of the Caspian Five (the second, by the way, Russia plans to host next year). In addition, nine five-sided agreements on cooperation in the fields of security, transport, tourism, and science are currently under work. We hope that some of them will be ready for the next Caspian summit in Turkmenistan."
