“I think that the European Union can play an important role in the reconciliation, reconstruction and peace-consolidation in the region, complementing the work of the [OSCE] Minsk Group,” Josep Borrell, the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission made remarks upon arrival at the Cooperation Council, APA reports.

“This morning I will chair the Cooperation Council with Azerbaijan.

It will be an opportunity to review the key elements in our relationship, as well as Azerbaijan’s reforms.

We had the same meeting yesterday with Armenia. Today it is Azerbaijan. Unhappily, the difficult situation between the two countries made it impossible to have any kind of common [trilateral] contact.

The European Union is the first trading partner and the largest foreign investor in Azerbaijan.

We will discuss about everything in our relations: the impact of the coronavirus and, for sure, the recent large-scale military operations in and around Nagorno Karabakh.

The ceasefire brokered by Russia on 10 November is still lasting, although there are some ceasefire violations. We are going to ask for the full respect of this ceasefire and to start negotiations within the format of the OSCE Minsk Group,” Joseph Borell said.
