"Eastern Partnership is a format, which suggests the European Union (EU) and partner countries establish flexible relations regarding priorities", said Kestutis Jankauskas, Head of EU Delegation in Azerbaijan during his speech at the online conference entitled as “Post-pandemic: support to resumption of activity of small and medium businesses (SMB)”, APA reports.

"As you know, the Eastern Partnership, of which Azerbaijan is also a member, celebrated its 10th-anniversary last year. A videoconference of the leaders of the Eastern Partnership countries was held nearly 10 days ago. The EU and leaders of the six partner countries promised to continue to encourage and strengthen cooperation and partnership once more", noted Kestutis Jankauskas.

The EU ambassador touching upon trade relations between the EU and Azerbaijan noted that the trade turnover between the organization and Azerbaijan has increased by 55%, and this is a good figure.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic showed that the EU as a global player can provide support to the countries exposed to the impact of the crisis, and especially the countries neighboring with the EU: “Now is the time when we listen to partner countries. We learn what they are expecting from this partnership. As you know, the new membership of the EU and the new Commission have been formed, and we on our part have determined 5 priority areas and in this regard, we have also received support from the partner countries. Firstly the economy – the establishment of new jobs, and thereby provision of support to youths and women take place among the priority areas. Secondly, I should stress good governance. Without it, the economy can’t thrive. Thirdly, the connectivity, digital development and transformation, fourthly, the climatic change and the green economy should be mentioned, and our last priority is that each citizen should feel and obtain notable results from this partnership”.
