French MP: Steps to be taken to voice Khojaly realities from parliamentary rostrum

Chairperson of Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova has met with members of the delegation of the French National Assembly who are on a visit to Azerbaijan, the press service of the Parliament told APA

The chairperson noted that relations between Azerbaijan and France have a rich history.

The Chairperson stressed that the sustainable development of inter-parliamentary relations, which have a special place in the system of interstate relations is very important. She has stressed the importance of friendship groups in this area.

S. Gafarova noted that the First-Vice President of the country Mehriban Aliyeva while was a member of Milli Majlis as a head of the Friendship Group with France has made significant contributions to the development of our relations: “This tradition is successfully continued by the members of a working group with France.”

Speaking about a number of facts about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the speaker said that on February 26, our people will mark the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy.

Majid El Gerab, a member of the French National Assembly, said that France attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with the South Caucasus. It was noted that the French deputies participating in the meeting are friends of Azerbaijan.

French MPs - Frederic Duma, Belkir Baladad, Mustafa Laabid, Carol Buro Bonnar, Michel Delpon who attended the meeting have highly evaluated secularism, tolerance, interest in French culture in Azerbaijan. It has been noted that purposeful work must be implemented to make Azerbaijan's voice heard louder and to inform the public about the processes taking place in the region.

French deputies said that they will take the necessary steps to voice Khojaly realities from parliamentary rostrum, as well as to reflect it in the documents released on behalf of the friendship group.

The future development directions of interparliamentary relations, work implemented in a fight against coronavirus, and other interesting issues for parties have been also discussed in the talks. The meeting has been attended by Soltan Mammadov, head of the working group on interparliamentary relations with France, Javanshir Feyziyev, a member of the group, Safa Mirzayev, head of the parliament's administration, and other officials.
