Lavrov: “Russian-Azerbaijani relations are strategic as well as, based on mutual trust and faith”

“The relation between the two countries are strategic, as well as based on mutual trust and faith,” said Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, at a press conference in Baku following a meeting with the Foreign Minister Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, APA reports.
Noting the mutual visits and meeting of Russian and Azerbaijani leaders, S. Lavrov stated that they observed the task set by Presidents in the direction of deepening the relations of parliaments and ministries.
Mentioning the relations in the humanitarian area, Russian FM stated that there are close relations between the two countries in the field of culture.
He expressed his gratitude for the care to the Russian language teaching in Azerbaijan. The head of Russian MFA stated that there are close relations between the higher education institutions, the branches of Russian universities operate in Azerbaijan.
Recalling the visit paid to Russia by Azerbaijani First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, the minister stated that this visit became very efficient: “On the sidelines of the visit of Mehriban Aliyeva, interregional and Youth Forum were held. More than 70 regions attend the Interregional Forum.”
The minister noted the importance of the organization of the Youth Forum in the future as well. Speaking about Azerbaijani-Russian cooperation at the level of international organizations Sergey Lavrov emphasized that there are close relations between two countries within the framework of UN, OSCE, Organisation of Black Sea Economic Co-operation, NAM: “During the chairmanship of Azerbaijan to Non-Aligned Movement over the next 3 years, we will try to further rapprochement of relations of Russia with this organization,” Lavrov stated.
Noting on the discussions he has held regarding the status of the Caspian Sea at the meeting with Elmar Mammadyarov, the Russian minister emphasized that they have similar positions regarding the results of the Fifth Caspian Summit.
