The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva has issued a statement in protest of another violation of the ceasefire by the Armenian armed forces during the pandemic and a provocative attempt that resulted in casualties, Ombudsman Apparatus told APA.

The statement reads: "So far, as a result of the military crimes committed by Armenian armed forces, the existing international documents in the area of human rights including the Geneva conventions (1949) were blatantly violated, and this trend still continues.

I would like to say regretfully that Armenia not giving up its aggressive and occupational policy continues its provocative actions resulting in fatalities by violating the ceasefire regime in various directions also during the current pandemic period declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) in connection with spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

Thus, beginning from the daytime hours on July 12, 2020, the units of Armenia’s armed forces blatantly violating once again the ceasefire regime, using artillery cannons, attempted to switch to the attack by opening fire in order to capture positions of Azerbaijan’s armed forces in the direction of Tovuz region situated on our country’s border with Armenia.

The creation of even more dangerous situation in the region by Armenia through blatant violation of fundamental human rights including the right to live by continuing the provocative actions for aggressive and occupational purposes, not complying with resolutions ## 822, 853, 874 and 884 of the UN Security Council, the resolutions of the UN General Assembly adopted in 2006 and 2008 and entitled as “Situation on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan”, and neglecting the appeals adopted by the UNO, the World Health Organization and other prestigious international institutions regarding the existing pandemic, as well as norms and principles of the international law should be strongly condemned by international organizations and peaceful state, and severe sanctions should be imposed on Armenia".
