“The coronavirus pandemic has completely changed the situation worldwide, consequently new realities have emerged”, said the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the Summit of the NAM's Contact Group which held through videoconference under the motto "United against COVID-19" focused on the fight against coronavirus pandemic, APA reports.
Head of state said Azerbaijan has reacted to the new situation quickly and adequately: “Non-Aligned Movement Summit of Contact Group, held on the initiative of Azerbaijan, shows it. COVID-19 global pandemics negatively impact world countries today. No country has been insured against it. We can defeat COVID-19 thanks to mutual support, non-isolation, and only joint efforts.”
We highly appreciate the declaration of the global humanitarian response plan to fight the coronavirus, by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the adoption of relevant resolutions in the UN General Assembly, and the important role of the World Health Organization in the global fight against the pandemic. We are in contact with the WHO from the first days of the pandemic. In March, a delegation of leading specialists in the organization visited our country on the basis of our appeal and got acquainted with the situation. I express my gratitude to Dr. Tedros Gebreyesus for his support of Azerbaijan and participation in the Summit.”
