"Russia will continue cooperation with Turkey and use all its influence in the region to prevent the escalation of the military scenario in Nagorno-Karabakh," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Kommersant, APA's Russian bureau reports.

The Russian minister noted that Moscow and Ankara are two close partners who can show a flexible, pragmatic approach and pursue a strategic vision when cooperating with each other.

According to Lavrov, an obvious example of business and material cooperation between Russian and Turkish diplomats, military and special services is in Syria and Libya.

"The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is completely different," added Lavrov while saying they were trying to resolve the issue through negotiations.

The Russian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of strict adherence to the ceasefire agreements, the establishment of a control mechanism and the resumption of a meaningful negotiation process with a specific schedule for both the parties to the conflict and foreign partners: "Although a lasting ceasefire is not possible immediately, we will continue to use all our influence in the region, work with our Turkish partners to prevent the military scenario from escalating, to establish a dialogue between the parties, and to persuade Baku and Yerevan to sit at the negotiating table."
