“It is necessary to think seriously within the framework of national interests while establishing any relationship with the Council of Europe,” head of Azerbaijani Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Samad Seyidov told APA.
S. Seyidov stated that very serious processes are ongoing within Council of Europe: “January session of PACE showed this once again. The organization is experiencing a systemic crisis. Therefore we observe serious problems in the organization's relations with the states. Establishing relations by Council of Europe with countries has become a difficult issue. As an example of this, we have seen its relationship with Azerbaijan. Even in the midst of this crisis, Azerbaijan tried to show a normal, constructive approach to the report that was harsh and full of criticism.”
S. Seyidov brought into notice that, they crossed out constructive approach, attempts to establish relations, the works conducted to create normal relation in Council of Europe: “As a result, the report that is full of offense, aspersion, and lie has been offered. We observed a biased approach not only in the report but also in the additions being proposed to the report by deputies of PACE. Their approach is a pressure mean against Azerbaijan. This pressure tool creates more problems for the Council of Europe than Azerbaijan...”
S. Seyidov noted that the attitude in PACE is connected not only with Azerbaijan: “We should think seriously within national interests while establishing relations with Council of Europe. In case of structures of Council of Europe treat mutual respect to these relations, Azerbaijan is also ready to show a constructive approach. But if they again act with unreasonable, biased claims against Azerbaijan, then they will further tense and deepen the crisis. As a result, the Council of Europe will have more problems. Currently, there are tendencies to move away from the center in different structures in Europe. The withdrawal of Great Britain from the European Union, populist forces coming into power within Europe, existing crisis within Council of Europe, and other events like this give evidence that Europe needs to think seriously."
