Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament addressed letter to Chairman of Russian State Duma regarding illegal visit of Vitaly Milonov to Azerbaijan’s occupied territories

Speaker of Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova addressed a letter to Chairman of the State Duma (lower chamber of the Russian parliament) of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, the Press and public relations department of the Azerbaijani Parliament told APA.

Sahiba Gafarova remembering in the letter with pleasant impressions the official visit of the delegation led by her to the Russian Federation and the meetings held with the Russian colleagues wrote she is confident that the mentioned visit will also make important contributions to development of our mutual relations from now on.

Then it is brought to the notice in the letter that on October 16 of this year, a deputy of the State Duma, a member of the Committee for affairs of development of civil society, public and religious associations, a member of the “United Russia” faction Vitaly Milonov made an illegal visit to the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan and met there with the head of the so-called separatist formation and voiced a number of provocative statements.

It is noted that the demonstrative support by the deputy of the State Duma to the separatist regime causes our deep regret and condemnation.

It is stated that such behavior of the deputy of Russia’s supreme legislative and representative body doesn’t correspond with the spirit of the strategic partnership relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation, represents contradiction to the high-level inter-parliamentary relations existing between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the State Duma of the Russian Federal Assembly.

It is brought to the notice that a visit of any person to Nagorno Garabagh without relevant permission of official bodies of the Republic of Azerbaijan is a serious violation of the country’s legislation. In the condition when the Republic of Azerbaijan wages struggle for restoration of its territorial integrity and sovereignty in the framework of the international law, especially taking into consideration the mediation of the Russian Federation in settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Garabagh conflict, the unlawful actions of V. Milonov are categorically unacceptable.

The Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament brought to the attention the necessity of taking relevant measures for prevention of such illegal visits from now on.
