The Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan has disclosed details related to travel with ID cards between Turkey and Azerbaijan since April 1, APA reports.

The Embassy wrote on the official Facebook page that both countries have completed the process of internal approval of the protocol on travel with an identity card, signed on December 10, 2020 in Baku between the governments of the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the well-known protocol will enter into force on April 1, 2021.

With the entry into force of this protocol, citizens of the two countries will be able to make visa-free tourist trips for 90 days with a new generation ID card.

"When citizens of Azerbaijan enter Turkey with an identity card, and citizens of Turkey - when they leave Turkey, they will be issued an" entry-exit form "in two languages, in which entry-exit stamps will be affixed.

Citizens of both countries must keep this "entry-exit" form with them during their stay in Turkey and Azerbaijan and present it, along with the identity card, to the relevant controllers at the border when entering-leaving," the embassy said.

The embassy said that Turkish citizens traveling to Azerbaijan on a new generation identity card, when applying for a temporary passport required to return in case of loss of identity card, must provide another document with a photo and indicating the identity card number.

The new generation ID can only be used as a travel document on direct travel between Turkey and Azerbaijan. When visiting Turkey or Azerbaijan from third countries, the use of a passport is mandatory.

The new generation ID cannot be used when applying for a residence permit. Citizens wishing to stay in Turkey or Azerbaijan for more than 90 days can apply for a residence permit with passports that are 60 days longer than the requested length of stay.

All foreign citizens entering Azerbaijan must contact the State Migration Service (SMS) if they intend to stay in this country for more than fifteen days (https://eservice.migration.gov.az/) and provide information about the address. Turkish citizens intending to stay in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days must also fulfill this requirement in a timely manner.

The statement of the embassy emphasizes that as part of measures to combat the COVID-19 epidemic, the period of the special quarantine regime in Azerbaijan has been extended until June 1, 2021. During the period of the special quarantine regime, entry into Azerbaijan is allowed only to foreign citizens who have a residence permit in Azerbaijan or have close relatives (parents, wife, children) in the country. Foreign citizens who are not in this category must obtain permission from the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan to enter the country before traveling to Azerbaijan.
