"Today, we welcome the efforts of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Non-Aligned Movement for their significant support and services in defeating the COVID-19 pandemic," said UN General Assembly President Tijani Mohammad-Bande during the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group summit held by video conference on the initiative of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, APA reports.

He said that today the global health system is under heavy pressure, global travel has been suspended: "As the United Nations, we intend to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic. For this, we must create a strong and sustainable system."

According to Tijani Mohammad-Bande, no state can cope with this problem alone.

"The situation is not the same as previous. Countries understand that today they face great difficulties. We are in the middle of the current crisis. Armed conflicts in the world must stop. "The United Nations has called for a global ceasefire," he said.

The chairman of the UN General Assembly stressed that today more than 90 percent of students in the world face difficulties, schools and universities are closed.
