Muriel Bauzer, mayor of Washington, DC has signed the declaration on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, APA reports.

The document reads: "The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic years ago on May 28, 1918, becoming the first secular parliamentary democracy in the Muslim world and whereas, democratic Republic became the first Muslim nation to grant women tight to vore and equal political rights as men, and WHEREAS,

The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic grants all its citizens the right to vote regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or religion; and WHEREAS, Azerbaijan's existence an independent nation was incorporated into the USSR in 1922, and

WHEREAS more than 60 years would pass before Azerbaijan would regain its independence in 1991, and

WHEREAS, since that time, Azerbaijan has consolidated its independence and has become a reliable ally and strategic partner of the United States which is Supportive of Azerbaijan's integrity and independence and

WHEREAS, millions of Azerbaijanis around the globe, including the clas city of Washington, DC, will observe and celebrate the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic:

NOW, THEREFORE, 1, THE MAYOR WASHINGTON, DC Jo hereby proclaim May 28, 2020, in Washington. DC, as "Azerbaijan National Day.""
