Zakharova: “We are in close contact with Azerbaijan in order to obtain observer status in NaM"

“We are working in close contact with the present chairman of the Movement - Azerbaijan in order the Russia to obtain observer status in the Non-Aligned Movement”, said official representative of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Maria Zakharova at the briefing held today, APA’s Moscow corfrespondent reports.

According to her, in recent years, quite close contacts emerged between Russia and the Non-Aligned Movement: “Firstly, the closeness and concurrence of approaches of Russia and member states of the Non-Aligned Movement regarding the issues standing out on the international agenda have helped this. On this backdrop, the raising of status of Russia is presented as a logical initiative and it is clear that its implementation is connected with fulfillment of a number of organizational and procedural requirements stipulated in statutory documents of the Movement”.
