Azerbaijani students holding a rally on Khojaly genocide detained in Moscow

A group of Azerbaijani youths who tried to hold a rally in Moscow on February 26 in connection with the Khojaly tragedy were detained by the Russian police, ONA's Russian bureau reports.

A group of Azerbaijani students studying in Moscow universities organized a rally along the streets of the capital in order to attract public attention to the Khojaly tragedy. Cars of Azerbaijanis were decorated with flags of Azerbaijan and attributes devoted to the Khojaly genocide.

However, law enforcement officers stopped the cars, and the passengers were taken to the nearest police station.

Shamil Tagiyev, chairman of the Azerbaijani community of Moscow, commenting the incident to ONA news agency, noted that Azerbaijani students were going to hold a peaceful rally in memory of Khojaly genocide.

“About 25 Azerbaijanis were detained and taken to police stations. Of them, citizens of Russia were released, while Azerbaijani citizens remained in the police stations. It is expected that the rest of Azerbaijanis will be released tomorrow,” said Shamil Tagiyev.
